Fish Scale Gradient Pattern
Overlapping fan-shaped scales on a diamond grid with a smooth vertical size gradient — small scales at the top growing into full fish-scale shingles at the bottom.
About this pattern
This preset builds the classic fish-scale (scallop) texture out of a single custom fan shape repeated on a staggered diamond grid. Each row overlaps the one above it, so the flat cut-outs read as layered shingles — the same visual logic as roof tiles, armor scales, or the seigaiha family of traditional motifs.
What makes this version interesting for fabrication is the vertical size gradient: scales start small and tight at the top edge and grow steadily toward the bottom. On a lamp shade, room divider, or facade panel this creates a natural sense of direction and weight without changing the layout logic. Because the gradient is parametric, you can flip its direction, ease its curve, or remove it entirely with one slider.
The scale shape itself is a custom SVG element, so you can swap it for your own drawing — a sharper gothic scale, a rounded petal, or a completely different silhouette — while keeping the overlapping diamond arrangement and the gradient untouched.
Pattern parameters
| Array type | Diamond grid |
| Element shape | Custom fan / scale |
| Spacing (X / Y) | 21 mm / 22 mm |
| Size gradient | Linear, top to bottom |

Every value above is a live parameter — nothing is baked. Typical uses: Decorative screens, lamp shades, facade cladding, stage backdrops, laser-cut wall art.
How to use this template
- Open the free Ventilation Hole Pattern Generator — it runs in the browser, no install or sign-up.
- Rebuild the look with the parameters listed above, or open Marketplace inside the app and import preset #005 directly (Pro).
- Make it yours — adjust spacing, size, gradients, or swap the element shape — then export as SVG, DXF, or STEP for print, laser cutting, or CAD.
